The attentive veterinarian promptly tackled the issue by extracting the botfly larva, allowing the bird to continue its recovery and regain strength.
To prevent botfly infestations, particularly when visiting tropical areas, it is advised to:
- Keep windows and doors closed at dusk.
- Install window screens.
- Avoid leaving food or beverages uncovered indoors.
- Apply insect repellent.
Moreover, in tropical regions, it's wise to iron clothes before wearing them, especially if they have been air-dried, as fly eggs can adhere to the fabric.
